Clinic environments are often stigmatized due to their functional nature: Because they are associated with sickness and accidents, they are also often feared and avoided. As a result, patients are often pitied and belittled aswell. But what is really happening, when the once dreaded scenario becomes ones’ reality?
The editorial .self questions the implications of various health states in a playful manner, and tries to break with common stereotypes. The hospital becomes a stage for a new way of life, which allows for pastime, self-optimization and hope.
The series shows two collections by fashion designer Isabel Louise Niemann:
Games, Costumes, Genders, Identities challenges toxic gender roles in competitive sports, using the example of american football. The bulky shapes of the tough looking gear sets are made of soft material, and are embellished with soft pink accents.
Point of Return tries to bridge the gap between able-bodied people and people with disabilities by adding gadgets to universally wearable pieces. The additional compartments and functionality features allow for an exemplary ease of use, regardless of one’s health state.
